Glad to meet you here.

I'm Lun, a designer at Comscore.

How I got started in design.

I got my bachelor's degree in Telecommunication Engineering in Beijing, China. It introduced me to a lot of things I can do in the digital world, from programming my own Tetris game to building an MCU into a digital calendar, only to realize that it is not the career I want to further pursue.

Then the following 2 years at the University of Maryland led me to design. The very first UX project is about "observing people using ticket machine at Metro station in DC". While that got me started my UX journey, It has been so fascinating ever since to see how design impacts human beings, the interaction, harmony in culture, and how design helps to make life better.

It (design, or life) is all about intentionality.

School is not about teaching, not all about. It helped open my mind, teach me to say no, and encouraging me to further explore who I want to be.

  • A good designer will have a logical answer for each decision. Nothing should be done at random, after all, and intentionality is a hallmark of good design. (from Julie Zhuo)

  • Career Planning is a dynamic process, it tells a story about where you came from, all the disciplinaries you explored, and also, domains you crossed off. (from John McGloon)

Be yourself. Because everyone else is taken.

This is what I learned from Oscar Wilde, and also something I wish I knew when I just started UX.

It speaks about embracing the uniqueness of yourself - your identity and culture origin; It is about living like a designer that goes with your belief and being adaptive in this ever-changing UX field; It is also about constant self-reflection: traveling down the path while keeping in mind where you started.

Thank you for being here with me.
